Dear Fellow UPDAA Members,
Please take note of the following Announcements:
1.A forum was held yesterday Oct 6, 2009 at the UPCD Auditorium. This forum was initiated by the UPManila Chancellor, Dr. Ramon Arcadio, the agenda of which was the selection of the next dean of the UPCD. This was attended by the UPCD Faculty, Students, Alumni snd Staff.As president of the UPDAA, I was present together with Dr. Arnon Rivera, UPDAA President-Elect.The event had 2 parts, Part 1 Discussion of the Nomination Process for the next Dean (presented by Dr. Arcadio) and Part 2 Review of the College’s thrust, priorities and achievements ( presented by Dean Elsie de Castro).
From this event, the following were decided by the UPCD community, with the Chancellor’s consent. Decisions were made based on votation.
a. Nomination. All nominations are to be submitted directly to the Chancellor.
b. There will be sectoral consultations. All sectors will be consulted separately. Alumni
consultations will be scheduled and will be announced as sooon as I receive notice.
Please wait for the next bulletin.
c. There will be a public forum. All candidates will be given the chance to present their
plans for the college. I will announce the date as soon as possible.
d. The Chancellor will interview all candidates. It will be a group interview.
There you have it.This was the consensus of those who were present.Just to let every body know that I was just informed of the event past 9pm the night before. Please refer to the power point presentation regarding the selection process so that we will be clear on the process of selecting the new dean.I was privileged to have a copy of the power point presentation from the office of the chancellor.Please refer to the attachment.
2. Please take note of the following information for the 2009 UPMAA Alumni Homecoming.
a.The venue will now be at the Social Hall, 8 Fl Central Block of the UP-PGH,October
28, 2009. Registration starts at 5pm. There will also be a Holy Mass at 5:30 pm.
b.Theme: ” Pagtanaw sa Ikalawang Siglo”
c.Tickets 500 pesos each ( will be available at the UPCD)
d.Nomination for the 2009 UPMAA Awards is now open.
I am printing the criteria for the UPMAA awards way ahead of the official and formal announcements because I think its too late considering that the awards night will be on October 28. Each college will select One Awardee.The committee will be composed of the UPDAA Awards Committee ( Dr. Sophia Macalintal- Chair) and Dr Jessica Santos and company representing the UPCD. So this is a joint effort of the UPDAA and the UPCD.

Call for Nomination to the 2009 UPMAA Awards
The Professional Award is given to UP Manila alumni whose life achievements have created an impact on national development and on their chosen fields. Hence the nominees must have attained national, and possibly, international recognition in the particular field for which they are being nominated
The criteria for the selection of nominees are:
a. Effective implementation of the national programs that promote health, Filipino
consciousness and nationhood through research, practice of the profession and
advocacy (50 pts.)
b.Continuing advancement of his/her profession through institution of innovative
programs, leadership in professional organizations, use of transfer technology and
other ways. (40pts.)
c.Exemplary demonstration of UP ideals as seen though his/her participation in UP
Manila activities and his/her personal relations with others. ( 10pts.)

1. Who can nominate.
Any individual, an alumni association or a college
2. Who are qualified
All graduates of degree-granting units of UP Manila with no pending
administrative/ ethical concerns
3. Who are not qualified
Those who have previously been given the award
4. Areas of evaluation may include the following
a. Practice of profession and other related matters
b. Professional growth
c. Creative works including research, publication, books etc.
d. Service to the nation and the larger community
e. Service to the UP Community
f. Academic involvement, if any
g. Others
5. What to submit
a. Nomination/ Justification letter
b. Three copies of latest comprehensive curriculum vitae
c. Two 2×2 pictures
